Herring 12

End of ramparts at Stege Bay

On the left of the last part of the ramparts, lies a large, red brick building, which is now adapted for retirement / disability housing. Originally, it functioned as a nursing home for the mentally ill, together with the yellow building at Herring no 11. The yellow denoted housing for the women and red, the men.

To the right of the ramparts, you can see a large lawn. Here, both the legendary restaurant of Skydevænget and later Hotel Stege Bay and Ellens Cabaret were beautifully located with a large glass veranda looking over the waters at Stege Bay. Following the demise of the last business, the property deteriorated into a ruin. Subsequently the premises was cleared in 2014. There is at this point in time (2018), no specific plans regarding its future use.
